How to return an item to Amazon: It can be disappointing when you find something online and it doesn’t meet your expectations. Luckily, Amazon makes returning your items very easily. First of all, you want to process the refund online so that you have an option or get your money back. Then, you want to bundle and deliver the returned item to finalize the return. If you ordered from Amazon immediately and it’s within 30 days of delivery, you can usually get a full refund or a replacement. If you received the item as a gift or you purchased an item through a 3rd Party on Amazon, you can still return your item but the process is a little unique.
Getting a refund for an item you ordered
Log in to the Amazon account you ordered the item from.
- Find the login information for the account you got the item from and go to https://www.amazon.com. Once there, scroll to “Sign In” at the top right of the screen and click the yellow “Check In” button. Then, enter your username and password in the provided fields.
- If you have forgotten your password, click the “Forgot my password” link to reset it.
Click on “Order” at the top right of your display screen.
- Click on “Orders” at the top right of the home display screen to view all the current orders you have placed. This will provide a separate screen that you can use to test your purchase information and begin the refund process.
Click “Return or Update Item” next to the item you want to return.
- The “Go back or change gadget” button should be to the right of the order you want to return to. By clicking on it you can reach the following page inside the return method.
Explain the purpose for which you wish to return the item.

- If you need your cash back for the item, click the Refund button. If the item you purchased is defective and you need a replacement, you can click Replacement.
- Once the refund is initiated, it typically takes 3-7 business days to reflect in your account.

- When you initiate reimbursement, you must return the item within 30 days.

Returning a gift you received
Go to the web, go back to the center and click the middle button.

Click the “Return or Update Item” button.
- The “Go back or change item” button should be to the right of your current image. Clicking this button will take you to the next web page in the return method.
Select the reason for return in the drop-down menu.
- Let Amazon understand why you want to go back to the present. Reasons should include whether the present is faulty, not suitable, or not what you wanted. You can provide additional details about why you’re returning it in the text content box below the drop-down menu.
Request a reimbursement or replacement for the item.
- If you need to get the money back, Amazon will upload a credit equal to the acquisition fee to your account. If the item you purchased is defective and you need a replacement, click “Substitute”.
- When you initiate a refund, you must return the item within 30 days.
Choose how you will withdraw the gift.
