On Wednesday, Bharti Airtel said that, despite continuing to increase deployment throughout the nation, it had reached one million unique 5G users on its network.
Airtel’s achievement of the benchmark follows the company’s announcement of the commercial launch of its 5G services in less than a month.
Currently, 8 cities can get Airtel’s 5G service.
Recently, Airtel stated that its 5G services would soon be available in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri, Nagpur, and Varanasi. The firm gradually expands its services to these locations as it builds its network infrastructure. The business reached this benchmark in less than 30 days after launching its high-speed 5G services to the public.
The services in these locations are being phased in as the business continues to build its network and finish the rollout, according to a statement issued by the telecom operator on Wednesday.
In 2021, the telecommunications provider began 5G testing, and by 2022, it was the first operator in the nation to provide the service commercially. High-speed 5G, which the firm calls Airtel 5G Plus, will be available to customers with 5G devices on their current data plans until the deployment is broad.
Airtel’s 5G customer base has grown to over 1 million in less than 30 days.
Airtel CEO Gopal Vittal stated on Tuesday that the company plans to retain its 5G and 4G pricing at their current levels for the next six to nine months, at which point it would evaluate whether or not to determine separate tariffs for 5G. He had previously said that in nations like the United States, Thailand, and South Korea, where 5G is priced differently than 4G, only a small percentage of local telecom consumers opt for premium 5G contracts.
Bharti Airtel’s Chief Technology Officer, Randeep Sekhon, released a statement in which he stated, “These are early days, but the feedback from consumers has been quite promising. Daily, we’re getting closer to our goal of having all 5G devices compatible with the Airtel 5G Plus network, with a few outliers that should be resolved in the coming weeks. We have a long-term plan to expand our network until the whole nation is linked.
In 2021, Airtel began testing 5G and was the first telecom company nationwide to provide the service commercially.
Airtel customers may keep using their 4G SIM cards as they are already 5G ready. The business claims that its service would provide speeds 20–30 times faster than the present speed, in addition to an exceptional voice experience and a lightning-fast call connection.
Until the nationwide rollout is complete, customers with 5G handsets may still use the fast Airtel 5G Plus on their current data plans. If you already have a 4G Airtel SIM, you won’t need to switch to a new one since it’s already 5G enabled.
With Airtel 5G Plus, users will have lightning-fast connections for a wide variety of online activities, including video streaming in 4K resolution, online gaming, group chats, rapid picture uploads, and more.
